Napier Family Centre Course Programme
Just for Kids a course held over six weeks, once a week for 7 – 10 year old boys and girls. The course is activity based and helps children explore issues such as strong feelings, building confidence and social skills through interaction, team building and fun. Groups are limited to 10 children and run by two trained, experienced facilitators.
Emerge - an 8 week course held once a week for 10-12 year old boys and girls. This course is activity based and helps the children develop social skills and confidence. They explore issues such as how to deal with bullying, healthy living, working together and have fun. The groups are limited in size to a maximum of eight and run by two trained facilitators.
GirlzAtt - an 8 week course for 13-16year old females – this course is not running currently. Check back in July
Xplore – an 8 week course for 13-16year old males - this course is not running currently. Check back in July
Young Mothers – the Stressed Out 2hour workshop is run once a term for young mothers with children up to 5 years old. These workshops are hands-on activity based sessions giving loads of ideas for coping and enjoying raising baby. The workshop appeals to very young mothers as they get a chance to be with other mothers the same age while learning some key skills. Transport and crèche provided.
Positive Parenting – parenting strategies for raising children to fit your family values. Mums and Dads enjoy this course as they realise very quickly they are not alone in the issues they face. The course over the 6 weeks (once a week) covers topics including discipline, feelings, self care, communication, child development and expectations of child behaviour. There is time for discussion and the sharing of problems and successes.
Parenting Teenagers – this is a 5 week course once a week, called surviving the challenge and finding ways to improve communication and build on your relationship with your teen. Mothers and Fathers enjoy this group as they quickly realise they are not alone and the non judgmental environment allows fostering of ideas and strategies. Our trained and experienced facilitators cover the tricky subjects around teen parenting; safety, risk taking behaviours, how to develop a great relationship with your teenager and realistic expectations while your child goes through these momentous years.
Self esteem for Women –this course offers women a safe environment to be involved with a group exploring ways to develop confidence and self- esteem. Our trained, experienced facilitators have run this popular 4 week course (once a week) for many years and women who attend have given great feedback about the benefits of learning strategies for self-care in the supportive environment of others who understand where you’re at.
Step Families – There’s a new dynamic in many families as divorce, separation, re-partnering, re-marrying, new babies, step siblings etc, creates a new-look family. Step parenting has its own set of challenges and this course will help you develop strategies for finding ways to cope with the challenges and share the joys of step families while developing your vision and family values. This course is over 6 weeks once a week.
